Li(f)e is the fourth solo studio album by American hip hop artist Sage Francis. It is his fourth studio album and his first with ANTI- records. He has filmed and released music videos for “The Best Of Times” and “Love The Lie”
Ever since we picked this as the “Deep Cut” for the newsletter this week I’ve been digging into Sage Francis’ catalog. I’ve heard of him for a long time but never took the time to listen and aside from the album in which this track comes from, I’m also really digging ‘Personal Journals’ (2002). Just one of the many ways that you can discover new music on The New Record. I’m keeping Sage Francis on my radar now. No wonder a great label like Anti Records brought him on board. - Alex C.

Marketa Irglova “Go Back”
At first listen, the name Marketa Irglova may not sound familiar but since 2006 she’s been the other (and just as important) half of The Swell Season along with Glen Hansard. Irglova is only 23 but her musicianship and songwriting skills have already merited her with an Academy Award. Irglova and Hansard’s performances have a dynamic that is hard to explain and best left to be seen and witnessed. One of our favorite videos of them is a performance of Van Morrison’s “Into The Mystic” at an Amoeba Records In-Store. Even with such great accompaniment, Irglova’s solo effort should be something to definitely check out.
She’s recently performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk and her new album titled ‘Anar’ is out on ANTI Records.
